Granite Fabrication

Granite is classified as an igneous rock which is highly sturdy and durable. Granite primarily consist lots of quartz and feldspars. Granite is a hard natural stone which is considered to be most durable out of all natural stones. Granite is available in multitude of colors. Mix colored and patterned granites are also available in market.
Nowadays granite has become the first choice of builders. People prefer to use granite in flooring, kitchen slabs, bathroom tiles etc. The elegance of granite captivates all of us but granite in its raw form is not as elegant as we see it generally.
Quarrying of Granite
Granite is quarried at various locations all over the world. Granite is naturally formed beneath the earth. Quarrying of granites is done in various countries. Italy, Spain. Brazil, France, China, United States etc. are few countries renowned for quarrying of granite. The quality and type of granite also depends upon the location of quarrying. Production of granite blocks is done from quarries positioned in high mountains. These quarries are usually situated in outskirts of main city areas. An average size of granite blocks range in 5’X5’ to 9 feet. After quarrying these granite blocks are transported to fabrication plants.
Fabrication of Granite
Once the raw granite blocks arrived at fabrication plants, fabrication process started. There are specific tools and equipments used to fabricate the granite in desired shape, size and finish. Nowadays CNC machinery is used for fabrication of granite blocks. Granite fabrication is a meticulous process carries out by skilled technocrats. Generally these granite blocks are fabricated in slabs and tiles.
Tiles are normally cut in standard size of:
• 12" x 12",
• 16" x 16",
• 18" x 18" ,
• 24" x 24",
Thickness of Tiles Varies in Range of:
• 3/8" to 3/4".
Whereas fabrication of granite slab normally depends on size of block. A slab usually size as:
• 9xX5’
Average thickness of granite slab is in general:
• 3/4" or more
Once the tiles and slabs are cut in desired size, they are further sent for finishing and polishing. These pieces are process through a large polishing machine which comprises multi heads. With the help of abrasive compound bricks or discs mend for diamond polishing, a natural shine is added on surface of granite. Final finishing of these granite slabs and tiles is done as per the specific requirements.
